Steak Board

My son wanted steak for his birthday, so I decided to put together a steak board to create a fun and "social" meal for the entire family to enjoy. I used a combination of steaks that I had in the freezer (flank, flat iron, and ribeye) and cooked them medium and well-done to accommodate everyone and served with roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, apple slices, and toasted bread. I also tried to make a cheese fondue dipping sauce, but it was a fail. I'll correct that for next time!

Summary

Serving Size: 5 people

Prep time: 25 minutes

Cook time: 25 minutes (grill steaks/asparagus and roast potatoes simultaneously)

Total time: 50 minutes

EQUIPMENT:

  • Nothing special required!

STEAK Ingredients:

  • 16oz flank steak

  • 8oz flat iron steak

  • 12oz ribeye

  • Salt, pepper, garlic (SPG...I used Spiceology brand, but you can make yourself using equal parts of each)

  • Olive oil to act as binder for SPG seasoning

EVERYTHING ELSE Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch asparagus

  • 2 apples (your choice)

  • fingerling potatoes (mine were petite)

  • 1 baguette

  • 4 tbsp garlic butter ( 1/2 for potatoes and 1/2 for baguette)

    • I used Derek Wolf's Garlic Herb seasoning from Spiceology

  • Olive oil

  • Salt

  • Pepper

STEAK Instructions:

  1. Take the steaks out of the fridge and put them in a bowl and coat in olive oil and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and garlic.

EVERYTHING ELSE Instructions:

  1. Slice the apples into wedges...as thin or as thick as you like.

  2. Set the butter out to get to room temperature. Once softened, add the garlic herb seasoning and mix it in.

  3. Slice the baguette in half and them halve the loaves lengthwise (see picture above). Take half of the garlic butter and spread a thin amount on the bread slices.

  4. Slice the fingerling potatoes in half lengthwise and then coat with olive oil, salt, and pepper

  5. Place the asparagus in a large ziplock bag and add oil, salt, and pepper. Close the bag and shake well.

COOK Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F for the potatoes.

  2. Get the grill preheated whether using gas or charcoal.

  3. Add the potatoes to the oven.

  4. Add the seasoned steaks to the grill and cook until desired doneness. I cooked mine at 2 different temperatures (medium and well-done) to accommodate everyone.

  5. Once steaks are done, let the rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

  6. Add the asparagus to the grill and cook for about 6 minutes until tender.

ASSEMBLY Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients to the board as desired and enjoy!
